As the Bard of Avon, aka William Shakespeare once inquired, “What’s in a name?” And so we might ask the same today about Frenchman’s Creek, one of the first, incomparably luxurious, residents-only year-round country club living communities in Palm Beach Gardens. No doubt others have wondered over the years just how Frenchman’s Creek came to be so named. And believe it or not, anther British writer had something to do with it, some 300 years after Shakespeare’s day. But first, more about living in homes in Frenchman’s Creek. It may not be for everyone, but could one of the homes for sale in Frenchman’s Creek be just what you are looking for?

Spend Your Day at the Private Beach Club of Frenchmans Creek
But by far the unique amenity available only at Frenchman’s Creek is the splendid private beach club right on the shores of spectacular Juno Beach. Here you can relax and bask on your own stretch of Atlantic Ocean-facing private sand, complete with wide umbrellas set up just for you and seaside food and beverage service. For time away from the ocean, there is a private heated swimming pool and a secure children’s pool, all just steps away from the surf. The club makes available a locker room, a towel service and beach toys for the convenience of its members. After a day of sun, enjoy fine dining inside the tropically decorated beach clubhouse, the fourth food venue of Frenchman’s Creek. The menu favors seafood of course, but other fare is also available. You could get used to spending your days here at the Frenchman’s Creek beach club, your private oasis in the middle of a busy life. It’s a cut above, and a world away, but only for residents of Frenchman’s Creek.
Combine all of this with the fact that Frenchman’s Creek is proud to be a private, equity participation community that puts the safety and security of its residents first and foremost. This gated residence is protected by its own professional security force staffed by former members of law enforcement or the military. A visitor ID program, round the clock paramedic services, perimeter patrols, a marine unit for protection of the deep water access areas, and high-tech surveillance monitoring all make Frenchman’s Creek the safest of the south Florida gated communities. You’d do well to buy a home in Frenchman’s Creek. It’s a wise investment in your future.
And Now You Know the Rest of the Story
Oh, yes, the name Frenchman’s Creek and how it came to be. What is known is that one of the first pioneer families who moved to this area was the Hoyts, who eventually purchased quite a bit of land here in the 1930s and ’40s. Mrs. Hoyt’s favorite novel of the day was called Frenchman’s Creek by famed British writer Daphne du Maurier, and in homage to mom, it is said that one of her children put up a small sign near one of the area waterways that so proclaimed the name of the location. In the late ’40s, federal mapmakers happened upon the sturdy little sign, and added the name Frenchman’s Creek to their project, most likely completely unaware of its origins. But the name lived on, and eventually the land became part of the MacArthur Foundation holdings. It was purchased from the foundation in 1977 by the developers of Frenchman’s Creek, the team of Jack Gaines and Burt Haft, and the first residents moved into this fabulous new community in the late ’80s. The rest, as they say, is history. Good thing Mrs. Hoyt’s favorite work by du Maurier wasn’t her more infamous one, The Birds, or this little tale would perhaps have had quite a different ending!
