By design, Abacoa’s neighborhoods are traditional in nature, with no gated communities. Village residents have reason to be proud of the Abacoa Golf Club, a public course situated right in the neighborhood. The club’s owners take tremendous pride in keeping the course in tip-top shape with extremely fast and true greens. The course measures over 7,000 yards long, a real test for all skill levels. In addition, you’re only a few miles away from outstanding beaches, boating, and numerous shopping options at the nearby Palm Beach Gardens Mall.

Your children will find that friends are easy to make as they play together in the yards and parks of Abacoa. And most of the time, school is within walking distance of their homes. Currently, Abacoa schools, which are part of the Town of Jupiter, rank among the best in the Palm Beach County school system, and many parents will tell you they moved into the neighborhood so their children could attend school here. Lighthouse Elementary, Beacon Cove Middle School and Jupiter High School are among the choices, with private schools including Jupiter Christian, The Benjamin School and King’s Academy nearby as well.

Abacoa Feels Like Home, Too

Abacoa is a wonderful place to raise a family and holidays are celebrated in style here. There is something for everyone to do and the event calendar is always full. Don’t miss the farmers’ Green Market held on Saturdays, and festivals such as the annual Arti Gras, classic car shows, holiday fireworks and Movies in the Park. Many look forward to the spring to see Major League Baseball’s Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals play at Abacoa’s Roger Dean Stadium. In the summer the stadium hosts the minor league Jupiter Hammerheads and the Palm Beach Cardinals. A full slate of family and town activities also takes place throughout the year in the stadium, including a Halloween parade, and huge, all-neighborhood yard sales! In the town center right nearby you’ll find restaurants, offices, shops, the Jupiter Campus of Florida Atlantic University, its Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, and FAU’s LifeLong Learning Society, an acclaimed adult education center. The Hibel Museum of Art is also located here, offering a lecture series, children’s art camp and other special exhibits throughout the year.

Three recent additions to the commercial and educational base in Abacoa include the 2012 openings of the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, the first Max Planck facility outside of Germany; and the first Scripps Florida Research Institute to be built outside of its La Jolla, California headquarters. These new institutes have made Abacoa an academic and research hub within Florida. Lastly, the internationally recognized security firm G4S (formerly Wackenhut) has also constructed and opened its first US headquarters here in Abacoa.

But any description of Abacoa would not be complete without mentioning the natural wetlands and nature preserves that meander throughout its neighborhoods. These Greenways were part of the original Abacoa development plan and will never be built upon. Here you can walk, bike, jog or nature-watch in these preserved natural eco-systems and sanctuaries without ever leaving your own community. They provide residents with attractive views and a peaceful environment, while at the same time protecting numerous wildlife and filling the important role of storm water management for the community.
