Jupiter Island Yesterday, and Today

Jupiter Island is part of the barrier island that stretches from Jupiter Inlet Colony to the south, northward to Hobe Sound in Martin County.  Its pristine beach is one of the finest in the world. The game of golf was played here as early as 1890, and a nine hole course was built in 1922 on the intracoastal waterway. In 1957 nine more holes were added and the private Jupiter Island Club was born. Also calling the Town of Jupiter Island home is the magnificent tract of land to its south overseen by The Nature Conservancy, and 500 acres of preservation land to the north maintained by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Although the town was incorporated in 1953, its history has always been about the land, and the respect shown to it by its residents. Land grants here from the King and Queen of Spain go back as far as 1815, and of course, the indiginous Seminoles were among the first inhabitants to honor the land. Still today, solitude, tranquility and seclusion are what you find here.
