These wood-chomping insects can cause tens of thousands of dollars in property damage and render homes unsellable.  Below are a few pointers to prevent and detect termite infestation in your home.

1. Trim back shrubs and landscaping 6 inches from the siding to allow air movement.

2. There are more than 2000 species of termites.  The 3 types found in Northern Palm Beach County and the Jupiter area are; drywood, damp wood and subterranean.  Subterranean cause the majority of all termite damage in North America.

3. Spring is the time of year when insects swarm so don’t mistake them for flying ants.  Many swarmers shed their wings after landing so look for piles of discarded wings on windowsills, the ground and in spider webs.

4. Once a year have your home inspected by a professional Termite Company to determine if any problems are starting to occur.
